Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, Dysport aftercare guide for the first 72 hours

One of the fastest ways to protect your result after neuromodulators is simple: stay upright for the first 4 hours and keep your hands off the treated areas. I’ve had patients come in after a lip flip and Dysport and tell me the outcome was exactly what they were hoping for, and the first-day habits are a big part of that. If you just saw me in Geneva or you popped over to the Downtown St. Charles / Main Street historic district along the Fox River for your appointment, this is your no-nonsense guide for the first 72 hours.

First 24 to 48 hours: the rules that matter most after Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, or Dysport

I keep aftercare practical because real life is busy. Most appointments are about 45 minutes, and the goal is to walk back into your day feeling comfortable and confident. Here’s what I generally recommend right after your injections.

Non-negotiables (today): Stay upright for 4 hours. Avoid rubbing, pressing, or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours. If you touch your face, do it gently and with clean hands.

  • No workouts for 24 hours (and longer if your workout is heat-heavy). I want you to avoid heavy sweating and big increases in circulation right away.
  • Skip alcohol for 24 hours if you can. It tends to make bruising more likely for some people.
  • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and very hot showers for 24 to 48 hours. Four-season life in the western suburbs matters here. Winter sauna nights and summer festival heat both count.
  • If you have swelling or tenderness, use a cold compress in short intervals. Don’t press hard. Gentle is the theme.

If you’re planning to be out at the Saturday farmers market or walking Main Street before an evening out, this is the time to keep it easy. Think strolling, not sprinting. I’d rather you enjoy your day and let your neurotoxin settle without extra heat and sweat.

Days 2 to 7: how I keep “quick and positive” results on track

A lot of my returning patients tell me their appointments feel “quick and positive, ” and that only works when the week after is smooth too. During days 2 to 7, your job is mostly to avoid anything that pushes, pulls, or overheats the areas we treated.

Big one: I want no facial massage and no aggressive skin treatments for about two weeks. That includes deep gua sha, strong pressure with a cleansing tool, and anything that really moves the tissue around.

  • Be gentle washing your face. Cleanse like you normally would, just don’t scrub or press hard on injection points.
  • Don’t “test” the area by pushing on it. I know it’s tempting. Give it time.
  • If you bruise, don’t pick at it. Let it resolve and cover it lightly if you need to.
  • Plan heat and sweat around your calendar. If you’ve got outdoor events in Geneva or St. Charles, aim for cooler parts of the day and keep intense activity for after the first couple of days.

Results are gradual. Some people see changes early, but most improvement settles in over days, not hours. If you’re comparing your face to a photo the next morning, take a breath and give it time.

Skincare and makeup after Daxxify and Botox: gentle wins for 72 hours

If you need makeup the same day, you usually can apply it a few hours later. The key is how you apply it. Pat, don’t rub. Use clean brushes or clean fingertips and keep pressure light.

Cleansing and moisturizing

Stick with your gentle cleanser and a simple moisturizer. This isn’t the time to try a new active that makes you red or flaky.

Hold off on aggressive treatments

I recommend waiting about two weeks before chemical peels, microneedling, or laser resurfacing. Same goes for a facial that includes strong massage or deep pressure.

If you’re someone who gets treated in multiple areas, like forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, lip flip, chin dimpling, jaw slimming, or neck bands, this “gentle wins” approach keeps everything settling the way we planned.

Bruising and swelling: what I recommend (and what I don’t)

A small bump or mild redness at an injection site can be normal right after treatment. Some people bruise easily, and some barely bruise at all. If you do bruise, you didn’t do anything wrong.

  • Cold compresses can help with swelling. Use short intervals and light pressure.
  • Keep skincare gentle over any irritated spots and avoid scrubs or exfoliating devices.
  • Don’t massage a bruise. It tends to make it look worse, and I also don’t want you moving product around.

If you’re nervous about needles, you’re not alone. I’ve worked with plenty of patients who came in anxious and felt better using numbing cream, ice, and simple distraction tools. The aftercare mindset is similar. Calm, gentle, and consistent.

When to text or call me, plus follow-up timing that makes sense

I’m big on clear communication. Patients tell me they never feel rushed, and that’s intentional. If something feels off, I want you to reach out so I can guide you.

Reach out right away if you notice:

  • Severe swelling, intense pain, or spreading redness
  • Vision changes
  • Anything that worries you, even if you can’t put it into words

For follow-up and touch-ups, I’ll guide you based on your treatment history and what we addressed. Neurotoxins settle over time, so I like you to give it a fair window to fully kick in before we decide what, if anything, needs adjusting.

If you want to read more about options and timing, I’ve put together a few helpful pages: why people choose Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, or Dysport, how long Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, and Dysport tend to last, and our neuromodulators services in St. Charles.

Need me? I’m here for patients across Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin, West Chicago, Wayne, and Campton Hills. If you’re heading into a busy weekend downtown, or you want to plan injections around a big event, just tell me what’s coming up and I’ll help you time it.
