Botox vs Fillers: Daxxify, Xeomin, Dysport vs Dermal Fillers (and how to pick)
By Beauty Rx Aesthetics - Injectables & IV Therapy | July 20, 2026
A lot of first-timers come to us after a lip flip and Dysport appointment that finally gave them the exact outcome they were hoping for, and the big question is almost always the same. If the lines you hate show up when you move, think forehead, 11s, crow’s feet, neuromodulators like Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, or Dysport are usually the better pick. If you’re trying to restore volume or soften deep folds that sit there even when your face is relaxed, dermal filler tends to make more sense. We do a lot of this work right here in Saint Charles, and we’ll help you choose what fits your face and your plans, not a trend.

Quick rule of thumb: movement lines usually respond best to neuromodulators. Volume loss and deeper, static folds usually respond best to filler.
Neuromodulators vs dermal fillers: two totally different jobs
Let’s keep this fair and simple. Neuromodulators (Botox, Daxxify, Xeomin, Dysport) relax the muscles that crease the skin. That’s why they’re the go-to for forehead lines, the 11s between your brows, and crow’s feet. In our 45-minute new client visit, we can also talk through options like bunny lines, an eyebrow lift, lip flip, gummy smile correction, chin dimpling, jawline slimming, a Nefertiti lift for the neck, neck bands, Microtox or Baby Botox, hyperhidrosis, and even TMJ pain.
Dermal fillers do a different thing. They add support and volume where it’s been lost or where you want more structure. That’s why fillers come up for cheeks, chin, jawline definition, lips, and deeper folds like nasolabial lines. You can think of filler as shape and support, and neuromodulators as relaxing the “pull” that causes creasing.
A detail that matters if you’re nervous
If needles are your thing you can usually breeze through. If they’re not, tell us. We regularly use numbing cream, icing, and even vibration tools to help distract and keep the appointment comfortable.
Botox vs fillers: the trade-offs that actually decide it
Most people don’t need a lecture. You need a clear comparison you can use.
1) Results and “what you’ll see”
Neuromodulators soften movement lines, so your expression looks calmer and smoother without looking frozen when it’s done right. We hear “refreshed but not like I had work done” a lot, and that’s the look we aim for. Fillers are more about contour. If you want more cheek support, a stronger chin, a cleaner jawline, or lip volume, filler is where that conversation goes.
2) Onset and longevity
Fillers tend to give an immediate change in shape and volume. Neuromodulators build in over a few days, and the full effect is usually clearer around the two-week mark. Longevity varies by product and your metabolism, but we’ve had clients choose Daxxify and still notice results at about the five-month point.
3) Downtime and aftercare
Both are low-downtime for most people. Still, you want to plan smart. We usually recommend skipping heavy exercise, saunas, and intense sun exposure for a short window after injections. Fillers can come with more swelling or bruising depending on the area, so if you’ve got photos or an Arcada Theatre night coming up in Downtown St. Charles, give yourself a little buffer.
4) Cost and maintenance
Neuromodulators are usually maintained every few months to about twice a year depending on product choice and your goals. Fillers can last longer in many areas, but the session cost is often higher. We’ll walk you through a plan that matches your budget and your tolerance for upkeep, and we’re very upfront about pricing.
“It’s been 5 months and I still see the results.”

How to choose: forehead lines, lips, cheeks, and the “I just look tired” problem
If your main complaint is forehead lines, 11s, crow’s feet, or neck bands that show up more when you animate your face, neuromodulators are usually the cleanest answer. If you’re noticing flattening in the cheeks, deeper folds that don’t change much when you move, or you want more structure in the chin and jawline, filler may be the better starting point.
- Pick neuromodulators when you want a smoother expression and softer movement lines.
- Pick filler when you want more volume, contour, or support.
- Pick a consult when you suspect you might need both, because a lot of faces do best with that combo.

Why Saint Charles clients stick with us for tox and fillers
People come in for results, but they stay because of how we work. We don’t rush you, and we don’t push you into services you didn’t ask for. We take the time to explain products clearly, review how you responded last time, and adjust so you keep the look you want. That “I felt comfortable the whole time” feedback shows up constantly, especially from first-timers.
If you’re in Saint Charles, Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin, West Chicago, Wayne, or Campton Hills, we’re an easy drive for short appointments that still feel thoughtful. And if you’re planning around the Main Street historic district along the Fox River, think farmers market weekends, summer festivals, or a night out, we’ll help you time things so you’re not dealing with swelling or waiting for tox to settle.
