First Botox Consultation? What to Ask and How to Prepare
By Beauty Rx Aesthetics - Injectables & IV Therapy | October 2, 2026
A nurse injector once told me she’s “very critical and extremely selective” about where she goes for tox, and she still chooses me. If you’re nervous about your first botox consultation, that feeling is normal. Most people aren’t worried about the appointment itself, they’re worried about looking “overdone, ” not being heard, or not understanding the cost.
This is exactly why I keep my Botox Consultation simple and low-pressure. It’s a 45-minute, no-cost planning visit with no injections. We’ll go over your goals, I’ll watch how your face moves, and you’ll leave with a clear plan, realistic expectations, and answers you can repeat back to your best friend on the drive home. I’m located near the Downtown St. Charles / Main Street historic district along the Fox River, so it’s easy to fit in before an Arcada Theatre night or a weekend in Geneva.
Before your botox consultation: 6 things to bring (and 3 to avoid)
If you do one thing before you come in, make it this: bring a current medication and supplement list. It helps me screen for safety and talk honestly about bruising risk, timing, and what’s realistic for your face.
Bring this with you
- A list of your medications and supplements (photos on your phone are perfect).
- Any history of prior injectables, including what you had and when, if you remember.
- Your “why” in one sentence. Example: “I want to soften my 11s but still look like me.”
- Photos of your face at rest and smiling that you like, especially if you’re chasing a natural look.
- A short list of questions about units, price, and timing so you don’t forget in the moment.
- Any allergy history or past reactions you’ve had to medications or injectables.
I also need you to tell me if you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, and if you have any neurological conditions. That’s not me being picky. That’s me being careful.
To reduce bruising, I generally recommend avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning supplements for 48 to 72 hours before your appointment. If you take prescription blood thinners or have questions about meds, let me know and I’ll walk you through the safest way to time everything.
And one more thing that people appreciate: I’m upfront about pricing and I’ll tell you what a real plan looks like. A client recently said it was “a breath of fresh air” to finally understand the total instead of getting surprised at checkout.
Inside the 45-minute Botox Consultation in Downtown St. Charles: step by step
First, you’ll check in and we’ll get comfortable. People tell me they don’t feel rushed here, and that matters, especially if you’re new to cosmetic botox and you’re still sorting through fears like needles or looking unnatural.
1) Safety and history (quick, but not rushed)
I’ll review your health history, medications, allergies, and your past experience with tox, if you’ve had it. This is also where you tell me if you’ve had uneven results elsewhere. I’ve had new clients come in after moving from Chicago because they wanted someone who explains things clearly and listens.
2) Movement assessment (this is where the plan gets specific)
I’ll ask you to raise your brows, frown, squint, smile, and relax. I’m looking at muscle strength, symmetry, and where lines form when your face is actually doing life. This is how I identify target areas to soften lines without freezing your personality.
3) Product and area discussion (including Daxxify, Botox, Dysport)
If you’re trying to decide between botox shots and other neuromodulators, I’ll talk you through what I’m seeing and why I’d recommend one option over another. I’ve had multiple clients tell me they felt confident choosing Daxxify after we talked, and one noticed results still showing at 5 months. If you want a deeper overview, you can also read our neuromodulators services guide.
4) Your plan and your questions (this is the point of the visit)
You’ll leave with a written plan we can follow when you’re ready for treatment. We’ll talk units, a realistic timeline, and how many sessions it might take to hit your goal. People appreciate that I don’t promise the moon just to make a sale. If you want to compare this consult to other injectables planning, Botox Consultation vs. filler consultation breaks it down in plain language.
“From the second I walked in, I felt completely at ease.”

Timing your results: 7 to 14 days matters for Geneva festivals and photos
Because this visit is a consultation only, you won’t walk out with fresh injections that day. But you can still plan smart. If you’re aiming for a wedding, professional photos, or a weekend festival in Geneva, I recommend scheduling your actual injectable appointment at least two weeks before your event. Botox and other neuromodulators tend to settle in over 7 to 14 days, and that buffer gives you breathing room.
If and when you do get treated, it’s normal to have tiny bumps at injection sites for a short time, and some people get small bruises. I’ll go over aftercare at your treatment visit, but the basics are usually: skip heavy exercise right after, don’t rub the area, and avoid pressure on the treated spots that day.
Local timing tip: If you’re planning an Arcada Theatre night or a Main Street weekend in Downtown St. Charles, don’t book your first treatment the day before. Give yourself that two-week window so you’re not staring at a tiny bruise in restaurant lighting.
If you like having a clear “what happens next, ” I wrote after a Botox Consultation: next steps to walk you through how people typically schedule treatment and follow-ups.
Questions I actually want you to ask about botox shots, DAO botox, and price
If you’re coming in from Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin, West Chicago, Wayne, or Campton Hills, I want you to leave feeling clear, not confused. Bring these questions. I’m happy when you ask them.
- How many units do you estimate for my goals, and what’s the total botox treatment price? I’ll explain what drives the number, like muscle strength and the areas we’re treating.
- What will “natural” look like on my face? People often tell me they want to look refreshed, not like they “had work done.” That’s a real plan, not a vague wish.
- Do you think I’m a good candidate for DAO botox? DAO botox is usually discussed for downturned corners of the mouth. I’ll tell you if it fits your facial movement, or if there’s a better direction.
- What’s your follow-up plan if I’m uneven? I’ll explain how we assess results once everything settles.
- Is cosmetic botox the right first step, or should I consider skin treatments too? Some people need tox, some need texture work, and sometimes it’s both. I’ll be honest about the order.
If you want more detail on timing, how long a Botox Consultation lasts explains why I keep the full 45 minutes available for questions.
A low-stress plan that keeps you looking like you, not “done”
Here’s the inside tip I wish every first-timer heard: the goal of a great neuromodulator plan isn’t the biggest change. It’s the right placement and the right dose for your facial movement. That’s how you get the “you look rested” comments instead of “did you get Botox?”
People come back to me because I take time to listen, I’m not pushy, and I’m very clear about realistic results and pricing. Some drive over an hour because they’d rather do this once, do it carefully, and feel confident.
