VI Peel aftercare: Aftercare for the First Week

By Beauty Rx Aesthetics - Injectables & IV Therapy | October 5, 2026

Questions during healing are normal. I’d rather you ask than guess.

VI Peel aftercare week 1 timeline and product routine

I want you to feel comfortable and informed after a peel. Now the most important rule for VI Peel aftercare is simple: keep it gentle and hands-off. Cleanse with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, moisturize, wear broad-spectrum SPF daily, and don’t pick. Peeling usually shows up around days 3 to 7. If anything feels severe or unusual, call me.

Geneva tip: Our four-season weather still brings UV exposure, even on cloudy days. SPF is not optional after a VI Peel.

Your first 24 to 48 hours after a VI Peel: keep it calm

Right after your 45-minute VI Peel appointment, I want you thinking “protect and soothe.” Mild tightness, warmth, or light redness can happen. Your job is to avoid adding irritation.

Do this (first 2 days)

  • Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry. No scrubbing tools.
  • Moisturize often. If you feel extra dry or tight, a simple occlusive like petrolatum can help seal in moisture.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Reapply if you’re near windows or outdoors.
  • Keep your pillowcase clean, and keep your hands off your face.

Skip for now: retinol, AHA/BHA exfoliants, acne “spot” acids, benzoyl peroxide, harsh toners, and anything that stings. I generally want actives paused for 7 to 14 days.

And hold off on heat and sweat. I generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, steam rooms, saunas, hot yoga, swimming pools, and hot tubs for 48 to 72 hours. If you’re planning a weekend out in Geneva or along the Fox River, keep it shaded and keep that SPF on.

Days 2 to 7: the VI Peel peeling timeline (and what not to do)

Peeling tends to start around day 3 and can look heavier through days 5 to 7. This is controlled exfoliation. It’s also the part that can make you panic if you weren’t expecting it. Don’t worry. Plan around it.

Quick day-by-day guide

  • Day 2: skin often feels dry and tight. Stay consistent with moisturizer and SPF.
  • Days 3 to 5: visible peeling usually kicks in. Keep cleansing gentle and moisturize more often than you think you need.
  • Days 6 to 7: flaking often tapers. Skin can look brighter, but it’s still sensitive.

The biggest mistake I see is picking. I get it, it’s tempting. But pulling skin early can leave you raw, irritated, and blotchy, and it can drag out healing.

If you’ve got plans coming up in the Downtown St. Charles area, schedule your peel so days 3 to 6 aren’t your most social outdoor days. That simple planning step saves a lot of stress.

Products that protect your result: cleanser, moisture, SPF (that’s the trio)

A VI Peel is meant to address things like pigmentation, acne, fine lines, and dullness. The peel does the controlled exfoliation. Your home care is what keeps the skin barrier happy so you can actually enjoy the glow.

Keep your routine simple for 7 to 14 days

  • Cleanser: gentle, fragrance-free, no exfoliating acids.
  • Moisturizer: bland and barrier-friendly. If you’re flaky, add a thin layer of occlusive over it at night.
  • Sunscreen: broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. Mineral or non-irritating formulas tend to feel best on post-peel skin.
  • Actives: reintroduce slowly in week 2. If you sting, back off and try again a few days later.

I work with a lot of busy families and commuters in Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin, West Chicago, Wayne, and Campton Hills. The easiest way to protect your results is to keep aftercare low-maintenance and consistent.

When to reach out to me (and when it’s an emergency)

I’m big on education and realistic expectations. People tell me they feel calmer because they know what’s happening and what’s normal. If you’re unsure, reach out. I’d rather talk you through it than have you try to fix it with the wrong product.

Usually normal: dryness, tightness, visible flaking, mild redness, and sensitivity to heat.

Call me promptly: severe swelling, blistering, spreading redness, fever, increasing pain, or any sign of infection.

If you think it’s an emergency: seek urgent care right away or call 911. Then let me know what happened so I can support your recovery plan.

If you’re healing during a busy work week, ask me about follow-up timing that fits your schedule.

Five quick FAQs I answer every week about VI Peel aftercare

How long will my skin peel after a VI Peel - Advanced Chemical Peel?

Most people see visible peeling start around day 3 and continue through day 7. Some peel lightly, some more noticeably. Don’t force it. Let it shed on its own.

Can I wear makeup after a VI Peel - Advanced Chemical Peel?

I generally recommend skipping makeup for the first 24 to 48 hours. After that, if your skin isn’t irritated, keep it light and avoid heavy rubbing to apply or remove it. If makeup stings, give your skin another day or two.

When can I exercise after a VI Peel?

I generally recommend waiting 48 to 72 hours before strenuous exercise. Heat and sweat can intensify irritation while your skin barrier is vulnerable. If you’re still very red or sensitive at 72 hours, wait a bit longer.

How soon can I shower after a VI Peel?

You can shower the same day, but keep water lukewarm and avoid hot steam directly on your face. Pat your skin dry and moisturize right after.

What should I do if my skin blisters or shows severe redness after a VI Peel?

Stop all active products and call me promptly. Blistering, severe swelling, spreading redness, fever, increasing pain, or signs of infection need quick attention. If you believe it’s an emergency, seek urgent care right away or call 911, then message me so I can guide you on next steps for healing.
